Tropical Storm Moke has slightly weakened with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and will pass south of Hawaii today.
Moke will begin to impact the Big Island early Sunday morning with heavy rain. Rain will then spread westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands through Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides for the windward and southeast Big Island, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala.
Although the strongest winds associated with Moke are expected to pass south of the Hawaiian Islands, strong gusty winds are likely, particularly in areas within and downslope of higher terrain. Swells generated by the storm may cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions through early next week for exposed east and south facing shores of the Hawaiian Islands.
Disaster managers and humanitarian assistance professionals can request access to DisasterAWARE Pro (disasteraware.pdc.org). The public can download our free Disaster Alert mobile app for updates and hazard alerts.

Tropical Depression Two-C has formed southeast of Hawaii and is forecasted to strengthen into a tropical storm by Friday as it moves south of the Hawaiian Islands this weekend. It’s still too soon to specify the exact location and magnitude of impacts, so closely monitor and ensure your preparedness plans are in place.
Heavy rainfall associated with this tropical system is expected to begin to impact the Big Island of Hawaii late Saturday night, spreading westward across the remainder of the Hawaiian Islands Sunday into Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala. There is a risk of wind and wave impacts in Hawaii regardless of the exact track and intensity of the system. Watches may be issued for portions of Hawaii tonight or Friday.
Disaster managers and humanitarian assistance professionals can request access to DisasterAWARE Pro (disasteraware.pdc.org). The public can download our free Disaster Alert mobile app for updates and hazard alerts.

To our Lao PDR partners, we send a genuine expression of aloha following our collaboration on the joint Disaster Resilience Workshop in Vang Vieng through the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MoLSW) and the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DM) to advance the National Disaster Preparedness Baseline Assessment (NDPBA).
The workshop demonstrated a strong commitment from all stakeholders across government and humanitarian sectors of society to strengthen understanding of disaster risk reduction priorities, build resilience, and enhance disaster management capabilities in Lao PDR.
Through our collaboration and technical discussions, participants provided critical input to support risk analysis, identify priority gaps, and inform the ongoing assessment.
Our engagement also highlighted opportunities to enhance preparedness through improved risk information, early warning capabilities, interagency coordination, and shared approaches to resilience-building.
We appreciate the valuable contributions of MoLSW, government partners, the U.S. Embassy, the Department of State, and representatives from U.N. and humanitarian organizations working together toward a safer and more resilient Lao PDR.

Tropical-storm-force winds from Lala, accompanied by gusts to near hurricane strength, will persist over Maui County, Oahu, and Kauai County today. The strongest winds will occur over areas of higher terrain. Rain will continue to taper off across the Big Island and Maui this afternoon, however additional areas of flash flooding and mudslides will be possible. Heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding and mudslides will continue across the rest of the island chain through later tonight.
